A New York man is dead and another is facing charges in connection with his murder following what police believe was a botched attempt at a sexual encounter.
According to WABC, a 21-year-old man is accused of traveling to the Brooklyn apartment of 60-year-old Clifford Williams early on Wednesday morning, at which time the visit quickly went south.
The two men are believed to have met at a Popeye’s fast food location shortly before heading back to William’s home, as reported by the New York Post.
Authorities believe that at some point after arriving at the apartment, the suspect retrieved a dumbbell from the Bedford-Stuyvesant residence and hit the victim in his head, killing him.
Reports indicate Williams’ stepfather was at the apartment and called 911 to report the attack.
When officers arrived, they reportedly found the victim unresponsive.
He was unconscious when he was transported to Woodhull Hospital and was pronounced dead a short time after his arrival.
As of Wednesday evening, the suspected killer’s identity had not been made public.
As WNBC reported, the investigation is ongoing and charges against the suspect were still pending as of the latest updates available.
The victim has been identified by those who knew him as a hermit who rarely associated with other.
Louis Brana, his apartment’s superintendent expressed shock at the circumstances of his death.
“It was totally crazy,” he said. “I couldn’t believe it myself.”
Brana called the fatal incident “ridiculous,” claiming that he was “not used to seeing (Williams) hang out with anybody or bring anybody to the house.”
