PREVIOUS STORY:
A family of four that that vanished after leaving for a Mexico vacation has been found dead, according to a social media post from a family friend who has been searching for the parents and their two children.
Kevin and Amy Sharp reportedly traveled to Tulum from Creston, Iowa, with their two children Sterling and Andrianna Sharp.
Amy Sharp’s sister Renee Hoyt told the Creston News Advertiser that the family left Creston on March 13 for St. Louis, Missouri, for a March 14 flight to Cancun. From there, the plan was to drive to Tulum.
“On Wednesday at 7 p.m., Amy sent a text to our mom that said, ‘We made it to our condo,'” Hoyt told the newspaper.
“That is the last communication she made. We got told last night Kevin [Sharp] sent a text to Travis Anderson [relationship to the family unknown] around 5 p.m. Thursday and Travis responded around 11:30 and has not heard anything back.”
The family was supposed to return home on Wednesday but did not appear at the airport.
“Nobody’s cell phones are on and they didn’t land in St. Louis last night,” Hoyt told the newspaper.
“There’s been no Facebook posts and that’s not like them. They’re always posting pictures when they’re on vacation.”
On Friday, Ashli Peterson, who had previously been asking for help sharing the news of missing family, appeared to confirm the worst in a Facebook post.
“UPDATE: The Sharps have been located. They were found last night in their condo deceased,” Peterson wrote.
“There was no foul play! At this time that is all the information we have.”
Prior to the discovery, relatives of the missing family had reported them missing to the U.S. Embassy in Mexico. It is unclear who or what agency found the family.
