Family members of an alleged sexually assaulted boy spoke out on Thursday, calling a Goodyear teacher accused of taking advantage of her elementary school student a “monster.”
AZ Family reports that the victim’s father and stepmother, who wanted to remain unknown, opened up after Las Brisas Academy Elementary School teacher Brittany Zamora, 27, was arrested for reportedly having sex and performing oral sex on a 13-year-old student. According to court documents, the teacher is accused of having sex with the boy several times from February 1 through March 8.
Zamora was arrested after the boy’s family found text messages between the teacher and student that were explicit in nature.
“He said that it started in a classroom chat group where she would talk to him, and then flirted with him, and it just progressed from there,” the victim’s stepmother told AZ Family. “He was taken advantage of. She was just using him for her own grotesque benefits.”
The boy’s father said that his son told him that he “kissed and had sex” with Zamora.
“You teach your kids there’s no such thing as monsters at all,” the boy’s father added. “But in the real world, there are monsters. Brittany Zamora is a monster.”
The distraught father and stepmother also accused the school administration of trying to cover their tracks after they allegedly didn’t report the incident in time. They also stressed that just because it happened to a boy doesn’t mean it should be acceptable.
“A big thing for us is that we want people to understand, just because it’s a boy makes no difference,” the boy’s father continued. “It’s the same. It’s a 13-year-old child who got taken advantage by a monster.”
The boy’s stepmother said the victim sleeping more lately and becoming aware of the “reality of what actually happened.”
The couple now plans to file a civil lawsuit against the school for ignoring rumors and warnings signs, and failing to protect the boy.
Zamora remains behind bars. She’s facing child molestation, furnishing harmful materials, and sexual conduct with a minor charges. The boy’s father hopes Zamora remains behind bars indefinitely.
“I want her to spend the rest of her life in prison. I want the school to be held accountable for what they’ve done and change rules and make it to where this can never happen to parents, another parent’s child.”
