Police in Kentucky are searching for a suspect who allegedly punched a pregnant woman and caused the fetus to die, the Lexington Herald Leader reports.
According to the Laurel County (Kentucky) sheriff’s office, Cindy L. Caudill, 46, got into a fight with a woman who was pregnant on Tuesday and punched her in the stomach. Shortly after 7 a.m. Friday, medical crews were dispatched to the pregnant woman’s home, where she reported having a miscarriage, the sheriff’s office said.
The pregnant woman believed she was 11 to 12 weeks along.
Investigators subsequently secured an arrest warrant for Caudill, whom they have been searching for since Friday. She faces a charge of third-degree fetal homicide.
Also on Tuesday – the same day she is accused of punching the pregnant woman – Caudill and a man were arrested for their role in a domestic dispute at a home, court records show. The police citation reveals that “deputies could not determine a primary aggressor” and “it seemed that both parties were equally involved.”
Caudill’s face had swelling and was red, while the man had small scratches and redness on his skin. Both were charged with fourth-degree assault as part of a domestic violence incident. Records say Caudill told a deputy that the man had thrown her down onto a gravel driveway and “punched her in the face several times.” She told a deputy that the argument was over a mobile phone.
