Police are searching for a California woman who disappeared while en route to visit family in Washington last week. Her family reported her missing on Saturday when she failed to show up.
NBC reports that Penelope Bax, 63, was scheduled to arrive at her nephew’s home in Bellingham, Washington, on Friday or early Saturday after driving from the San Diego area on Thursday. She never made it and hasn’t been reachable by phone since Thursday. Family members said Bax’s last known location was the Hirz Bay Campground in the Shasta County.
According to Shasta County sheriff’s Sgt. Caleb McGregor, authorities performed a welfare check at the campground on Saturday morning but found no sign of Bax. The US Forest Service (USFS) also searched for her at the campground with no luck.
Bax is described as a white female who stands 5 feet, 9 inches tall with blonde hair. She was last seen with her Golden Retriever dog in a 2017 white Mercedes Sprinter Camper van. Family members indicated she’s the owner of the Rancho Santa Fe Flowers and Gifts shop.
Anyone with any information on Bax’s whereabouts should contact the Shasta County Sheriff’s Department at (530) 245-6540.
