A criminal trial reportedly ended as the scene of a separate crime in Florida recently after four defendants were convicted of murder.
According to Fox News three of the four convicted killers almost immediately became violent in the courtroom, with Troy Davis taking aim at defense attorney Daniel Hernandez.
The incident was captured by surveillance cameras and the lawyer described his ordeal after the situation calmed down inside the Ocala courtroom.
“I got about five punches to the back and the side of my head, forehead,” Hernandez said. “I got a few bumps and bruises, some scratches.”
The attack came as a complete surprise, he said.
“We’d had our disagreements on some things, but we never, nothing physical had ever happened, and I certainly was not expecting to get punched,” Hernandez said.
After four decades of practicing law, he said this was the first time a client had resorted to physical violence against him.
Security guards quickly responded to the brawl with stun guns drawn, deploying the weapons in an effort to halt the attack.
After all of the co-defendants were removed from the courtroom, Davis reportedly returned to apologize to Hernandez, according to WOGX. None of the defendants involved are expected to face additional charges related to the disturbance.
Davis was convicted of killing Courtney London, a 28-year-old father, in 2016. The damning evidence came from the victim’s son, who was just 5 years old at the time of the shooting.
All four of the co-defendants received life sentences in connection with the murder.
