Authorities in Florida arrested the wife of a former U.S. Open champion after she allegedly attacked her husband and mother-in-law following a round of golf at the Players Championship recently.
According to Fox News, Lucas Glover shot a 78 during the third round of the competition earlier this month in Florida when the argument with his wife, Krista Glover, began.
As a police report indicates, he told officers that “when he plays a bad round of golf, Krista proceeds to start an altercation with him and telling how he is a loser and a p****, how he needs to fire everyone, and how he’d better win or her and the kids would leave him and he would never see the kids again.”
Hershey Glover, the golfer’s mother, allegedly attempted to intervene on her son’s behalf. That act led the suspect to begin attacking the older woman, police say.
Police reportedly saw abrasions and other injuries on Hershey Glover when they arrived to arrest Krista Glover. The elder Glover reportedly told authorities that her daughter-in-law punched her in the chest.
The suspect’s abusive behavior allegedly continued as officers attempted to take her into custody.
“Wait till the [PGA] tour hears about this,” she reportedly screamed at officers. “You will lose your job. This is why cops get shot in the face. Wait till I talk with the judge, you will be f***ing fired over this.”
The golfer reportedly attempted to talk police out of arresting his wife and subsequently released a statement defending her, as reported by the New York Post.
“Regrettably, although Krista was charged, we are comfortable that the judicial system is able to address what actually happened and Krista will be cleared in this private matter,” he tweeted.
Lucas Glover asked fans to respect his family’s privacy “as we work through this situation.”
