A investigator says he helped find reported human remains on Thursday, likely 5-year-old Lucas Hernandez, who has been missing since February 17.
KWCH reports that Harvey County Sheriff Chad said he responded to a call regarding a “dead body” underneath a bridge off of SE 96th Street, in between S. Woodlawn and Hillside Streets in Harvey County on Thursday afternoon. Shortly before being dispatched, private investigator David Mashburn reportedly found the remains of Lucas after getting information from Emily Glass, the boy’s stepmother. It’s unclear what Glass told Mashburn.
Authorities confirmed that “small” human remains were indeed found. However, they cannot positively identify the victim until the Medical Examiner makes a positive identification. Police reported that the remains on surface were “unidentifiable.”
“There is no way we can tell who it is because of the deteriorated state,” Gay said.
So far there have been no arrests. The Wichita Crime Scene Lab are currently processing the scene for evidence.
As CrimeOnline previously reported, Glass reported Lucas missing on Saturday, February 17, at around 6:15 p.m. Glass told authorities she last saw the boy at 3 p.m., when she put him down for a nap, then took a nap herself with her toddler daughter. The boy’s father was at work when the incident occurred, while his biological mother was in another state.
