Authorities in New York have issued an AMBER Alert for a missing 14-month-old boy after his mother was found dead.
WGRZ reports that Owen Hidalgo-Caldron is missing from upstate New York, and his mother was found dead on Thursday under suspicious circumstances.
Wayne County Sheriff’s office told the news station that Owen is in need of asthma medication. He has not been seen since May 16, and police believe he was taken from a home on Joy Road in Sodus.
“The child was taken under circumstances that lead police to believe that they are in imminent danger of serious physical harm and/or death,” authorities said in a press release obtained by CBS New York.
Owen Hidalgo-Caldron’s mother, 18-year-old Selena Hidalgo-Calderon, was reportedly found dead on Thursday in Sodus, New York. Her body was found in a bag in the woods near a farm where she reportedly worked.
Owen Hidalgo-Caldron is a Hispanic male, standing about two feet tall and weighing 30 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes.
The boy’s mother, who is from Guatemala, was reportedly in the process of seeking asylum as she set to be deported.
Selena’s boyfriend, Everardo Reyes, has reportedly been arrested and charged with tampering with evidence. The report did not state whether Reyes is a suspect in Owen Hidalgo-Caldron’s disappearance.
Anyone with any information about the boy’s whereabouts or his mother’s death is urged to call the Wayne County Sheriffs Department at (866) NYS-AMBER or call 911.
