Anthony Bourdain, the chef, storyteller and host of CNN’s ‘Parts Unknown’ was found dead of an apparent suicide on Friday in France at the age of 61.
Christian de Rocquigny of the Colmar prosecutor’s office told the Associated Press that Bourdain hanged himself in the bathroom of his hotel room there, in the Alscace region of France, reportedly using the belt from his bathrobe.
News of Bourdain’s apparent suicide shocked the culinary and media worlds, and beyond. On Friday, social media was filled with tributes to the man remembered for his kindness and quiet generosity as much as his adventurousness and talent as a storyteller.
Bourdain’s death came just days after iconic designer Kate Spade was found dead by hanging in her Park Avenue apartment. A medical examiner ruled her death a suicide.
The Colmar prosecutor told the Associated Press that toxicology tests were being performed to determine if Bourdain had any drugs in his system that may have influenced his actions.
