A Michigan man pleaded guilty this week to the brutal murder of his 3-year-old daughter.
As reported by Fox News, 27-year-old Khairy Simon appeared in a Genesee County court on Tuesday and claimed the child’s mother beat the girl with her fist and an extension cord.
He said the abuse occurred while the parents attempted to potty train young Kimora Simon. Investigators believe the victim died around May 2015.
During the hearing, Simon claimed that because Finley was “much bigger” than he was, he was unable to prevent her from abusing the child.
He went on to say that “she felt like she had to get her point across” by beating their daughter.
Though her remains were never found, Simon claimed that he put the girl’s body in a garbage bag and then into a backpack before burying it in the yard near their Flint home.
According to WNEM, prosecutors filed murder charges against Erica Finley and Khairy Simon in December 2016 following an investigation that began when a teacher identified apparent signs of abuse on the toddler’s older brother.
Finley was also charged with multiple counts in connection with the child’s death, including felony murder, first-degree child abuse, child abuse in front of another child, tampering with evidence, and lying to a police officer.
Two other children were removed from the home when Simon and Finley were arrested. The 5-year-old boy and his 7-year-old brother were placed in the temporary custody of social workers at that time.
