Authorities in California say they believe a woman found dead inside her bedroom last week was the victim of a homicide.
According to KSWB, authorities arrived at the 21-year-old woman’s home in the urban neighborhood of City Heights in San Diego at about 5 p.m. Saturday.
Police officers were dispatched to the scene in response to reports of a deceased person at the residence in the 3600 block of 45th Street.
A subsequent statement from the San Deigo Police Department’s homicide division confirmed an initial investigation indicated the resident had been murdered.
San Diego Police Lt. Matt Dobbs said the woman’s family members found her body with obvious signs of injuries, according to the Times of San Diego.
“The first patrol officers arrived and discovered a 21-year-old female deceased in an apartment,” he said. “The female had suffered apparent traumatic injuries.”
Local reports show that investigators remained on the scene collecting evidence for some time following the discovery.
The woman, who was not identified in initial reports, was last known to be returning early Saturday morning following an evening out with friends.
As of the latest updates available, investigators had not yet confirmed that they had been in contact with those individuals believed to have been with her prior to her death.
Though police believe her death was the result of a homicide, they had not identified any suspects as of their initial statement.
Authorities are asking anyone with information about the case to contact homicide detectives by calling 619-531-2293 or San Diego County Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
