A California father of two was shot dead while on a weekend camping trip at Malibu Creek State Park.
KTLA reports that Tristan Beaudette, 35, was shot dead in his tent before sunrise on Friday. His two daughters, ages 2 and 4, were also in the tent at the time but were found unharmed.
Beaudette was shot in the chest but an unknown assailant in an area of the campground that appears to have been heavily occupied. Park Superintendent Tony Hoffman told the news station that the shooting occurred in an area with 63 campsites, and said he believes many of them were being used.
A motive for the shooting is not known and authorities have said little about the investigation or a possible suspect.
Baudette lived with his wife and the two girls in Irvine, California, and the family was reportedly planning to relocate north to the Bay Area. According to a GoFundMe campaign page, Baudette’s wife remained at home this weekend to study for an exam she was scheduled to take the morning after her husband was killed. Both Baudette and his wife were beginning new jobs after the family moved.
“They were about to embark on a new chapter in their lives. And then it was all taken away, by a fatal gun shot in the middle of the night, in front of his two young daughters,” the GoFundMe campaign page reads.
“Not a second goes by that we aren’t grappling with the senselessness of this crime.”
This is a developing story. CrimeOnline will provide further updates when more information becomes available.
