A North Carolina man and a pregnant woman are both listed in serious, critical condition after the male allegedly attacked her, followed by an officer shooting him on Tuesday.
WRAL reports that a woman in Fayetteville called 911 a little before 9 a.m. on Tuesday morning to report a man was holding her hostage inside an apartment home off of the 800 block of Greenleaf Drive. According to Chief Gina Hawkins of the Fayetteville police, when officers arrived to the scene, they had to force their way into the apartment after the male suspect refused to listen to them.
Once inside, officers found the suspect standing over a pregnant woman. When he refused to move away from and obey commands, one of the officers shot him, critically injuring. Both the suspect and the victim are 30. Their names have not yet been released. They apparently knew each other, according to police, but the relationship at this time remains unclear.
“No officer wants to be the one injuring someone,” Chief Hawkins said in a press release that followed the incident. “What matters is that this woman is alive. Our response was on-point.”
