A Texas mother is facing decades behind bars for attempting to sell her toddler into prostitution.
As Fox News reported, 25-year-old Sarah Marie Peters pleaded guilty to three felony counts in connection with a child exploitation investigation conducted by Montgomery County authorities.
According to KTRK, the county’s Precinct 1 Constable’s Office launched the probe in February and investigators witnessed the Houston woman offer the 2-year-old girl to a man for sex in exchange for $1,200.
That man was actually an undercover officer, according to authorities, and he arranged to meet Peters in Conroe a short time later.
The U.K. Sun cited court documents that show Peters sent the man nude images of the young girl during their online communications.
She then traveled with the young girl via a Greyhound bus from Houston to Conroe.
The detective leading the investigation reported that his involvement began when he received a report of a local woman who was “into incest.”
Upon arriving at the bus station, the woman was arrested and charged with crimes including promoting child prostitution, attempted human trafficking, and sexual performance of a child.
She was subsequently ordered to spend a total of 40 years in prison. Multiple sentences handed down during the final phase of the trial will be served concurrently.
Her young daughter has been placed in the custody of the Texas Department of Child Protective Services.
Peters will be fist be eligible for parole in 20 years.
