One Texas woman is facing criminal charges and another is recovering from a brutal injury after what authorities describe as a violent attack at the victim’s home.
According to KTRK, 41-year-old Jessica Collins was arrested on suspicion of biting the nose off of another woman.
In an interview with local reporters, the alleged victim said she has been traumatized and has trouble leaving her bedroom since the the attack.
“It’s where I feel safe,” she said.
The incident occurred on Wednesday night, according to authorities. The two women had reportedly been at an area bar before returning to the victim’s residence in Conroe.
Investigators indicate the suspect had been staying with the victim’s neighbor temporarily and the three individuals had been out together earlier that evening.
Upon returning to the home, Collins allegedly demanded the victim give her cigarettes and alcohol, leading the unidentified woman to tell the suspect to leave her property. In response, Collins allegedly bit the woman’s nose off and swallowed it.
“I didn’t have time to react, to push her away,” the woman said. “I think I was trying to fight back, but I couldn’t. All I could remember was the taste of blood in my mouth.”
She said she did not realize the extent of her injuries until she was in the ambulance on the way to the hospital.
“I started calling my husband when I was in the ambulance,” the woman said. “I was screaming, like, ‘I don’t have a nose. I’m 28 years old and I don’t have a nose anymore.'”
The victim, who reportedly does not have health insurance, now faces the need of emergency plastic surgery. Her loved ones have established an online fundraiser in an effort to cover the cost of her medical care.
Collins faces a charge of assault causing bodily injury and was released on Monday after posting bond.
