Authorities in New Jersey say a woman brutally beat her own mother and grandmother to death in a recent residential robbery.
According to Philly.com, 42-year-old Heather Barbera, of Ventnor, reportedly told investigators that she killed the victims at their North Jersey Shore apartment.
Police say the suspect told them that she killed 67-year-old Michelle Gordon and 81-year-old Elaine Rosen by bludgeoning them with a nightstick.
Barbera was apprehended in New York City after evading authorities for four days.
The suspect’s uncle said he warned the victims not to take in the troubled woman.
Richard Rosen called the crime “unimaginable” shortly after he found the victims’ bodies.
“It was horrible,” he said. “They were both on the floor. There was blood all over. I was hoping they were alive even though they were dead.”
The incident occurred on July 7 and she is believed to have headed to Atlantic City before continuing on New York City where she was arrested.
According to the New York Post, authorities first began to track the suspect in New York City after records indicated she used her deceased mother’s credit card at a hotel.
As they followed her subsequent purchases, officers were able to locate and arrest her.
Police reports indicate authorities found her at the New York Port Authority bus terminal on July 11.
As of Wednesday, she was still behind bars in the Rose M. Singer Center on Rikers Island in New York waiting to be extradited to New Jersey.
Barbera is expected to face a number of criminal charges including murder and robbery.
