Authorities in Florida say a 28-year-old man raped a 12-year-old girl last year and allegedly got the victim pregnant.
According to WPEC, Jorge Estuardo Cobon-Juarez was arrested after the girl gave birth earlier this month.
After she was admitted to a West Palm Beach area hospital, she told staff that she was eight months pregnant.
Her mother reportedly told authorities that Cobon-Juarez was the baby’s father.
The alleged sexual assault took place in October and the victim gave birth on July 1.
Later that week, she provided a statement to police explaining the sexual acts she said the suspect performed on her.
According to police reports, Cobon-Juarez was proven to be the father after undergoing a paternity test.
He was reportedly arrested on July 13 and as of the latest updates available he remained in jail awaiting his next court appearance.
Authorities indicate the suspect denied he engaged in sexual acts with anyone other than his girlfriend.
Cobon-Juarez is scheduled to appear in court on August 13.
He is expected to face charges including child cruelty and sexual assault.
