Authorities in Oklahoma say an 18-year-old man and his 15-year-old girlfriend hatched a murder plot against the girl’s mother, father and sister.
According to KABC, the Lincoln County couple plotted the triple homicide after the minor’s parents refused her request for emancipation to marry her older boyfriend, Zachary Sligar.
Lincoln County Sheriff Charlie Dougherty released a statement confirming the two suspects are facing a litany of criminal charges related to the alleged conspiracy.
“They came up with a plan to do a three-way homicide by killing mom, dad and an older sister that lives on the property,” he said.
Sligar allegedly brought a firarm from his home to meet the teen girl, who investigators say was also armed with a handgun.
According to police the family members targeted in the plot were sleeping at the time the teens entered the first bedroom.
“Zach goes into the bedroom, fires one time at dad and misses and shoots a hole in his pillow,” Dougherty said. “Immediately turns the gun on mom. Shoots her one time in the face.”
The couple had allegedly packed bags prior to the incident as part of a plan to “kill those three and move along with life,” the sheriff said.
One firearm believed to have been used in the shooting was recovered at the scene, according to investigators. The two suspects were arrested a short time later.
Reports indicate county prosecutors are planning to file charges against both suspects including conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, shooting with the intent to kill and battery with a dangerous weapon. The unnamed minor will face her charges as a youthful offender, according to officials.
As Newsweek reported, the girl’s mother was transported to an area hospital where she was admitted in critical condition and has since been upgraded to serious but stable.
