A couple in Green, Ohio, were arrested in June following a probe that police say reveals disturbing crimes involving the woman’s children, including the sexual assault of a 4-year-old boy caught on video surveillance.
An investigation into Samantha Ward, 31, and her live-in boyfriend, Dean Davis, 28, began in April after a third party witnessed video footage depicting the apparent sexual assault of a child captured by home security cameras and subsequently reported it to police, Summit County Sheriff’s Inspector Bill Holland said, according to the Akron Beacon Journal.
Authorities say the video shows Davis sexually assaulting Ward’s 4-year-old son, and further stated that the mother was aware of the crime yet failed to report it. The woman has four children ranging in age from 4 to 13-years-old.
Court documents state that Davis also stands accused of forcing the boy to eat feces.
Investigators only recently gained access to the footage, leading to the filing of additional charges, Holland said. Court records show charges against the suspects were initially filed in June, with additional charges filed last week.
Ward was arrested in June after police say she was found to be consuming medication belonging to her children, though the type of medication hasn’t yet been revealed. The children were then taken into custody by the Summit County Children Services. It isn’t clear if the other children were abused at this point in the investigation.
Ward faces felony charges including endangering children and theft by deception for allegedly stealing their medications.
Davis is facing charges including gross sexual imposition and endangering children. Both parties may face additional charges as the investigation continues.
