A man is facing charges possibly related to a hate crime after police say cellphone video catches him threatening to kill an Indian man’s family during a heated dispute outside of a Canadian Walmart.
According to CBC, authorities have charged a 47-year-old man with criminal counts including dangerous driving and failing to remain at the scene of a crash.
The incident occurred on Friday in Stoney Creek, according to reports. Video of the encounter was uploaded to YouTube by a user named Patryk Laszczuk.
That individual reported that the footage was given to him by a friend, the alleged victim of the racist tirade. CBC noted that it had not independently verified Laszczuk’s claim.
According to reports, the altercation began when one party blocked the other while attempting to park. By the time the footage begins, the suspect is already clearly agitated.
“Oops,” the driver can be heard saying upon apparently striking the alleged victim, who reaches to grab the driver through his truck door window.
“Get out of the way,” the man yells before beginning to threaten the man identified as Indian.
“You put your f—ing hands on me I will break your leg,” the driver said. “You’re the one trying to harass me.”
The driver appears to acknowledge that he is “racist as f—” and addresses the man outside of his truck when he says he “would kill your children first.”
He reportedly told the victim to go back to his country, prompting the man to tell him he is a Canadian citizen.
“Show me,” the driver said. “Prove it. I don’t believe you.”
After mocking the man’s accent, the driver said he doesn’t “talk like a Canadian.”
