Authorities in Oregon say a man attempted to kill his roommate during a heated argument last week.
According to Fox News, 27-year-old Keith J. Lindley-Heller was arrested on Friday after he allegedly attacked his 60-year-old roommate with a hatchet.
The two shared a residence in Cave Junction, according to local media reports.
Oregon State Police Sgt. Jeff Proulx confirmed the incident occurred in the 1400 block of Rockydale Road, as reported by the Oregonian.
Officials indicate the suspect was living with the older woman in the role of her caretaker.
Investigators believe the suspect engaged in a disagreement with Shirley Sarfaty earlier in the day after becoming intoxicated.
He allegedly began threatening the victim in a booze-fueled rant before he retrieved a hatchet from his room and returned to strike her with it. Proulx said she was hit several times in the head during the attack.
Sarfaty was rushed to an area hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries. Her condition was not immediately available but authorities indicate she is expected to survive her injuries.
The suspect was reportedly apprehended and transported to Josephine County Jail. He was booked into jail and, as of the latest updates available, remained behind bars.
According to court reports, Lindley-Heller is expected to face criminal charges including attempted murder, assault in the first degree and criminal mistreatment in the first degree.
