A man was caught on video taunting a bison—who eventually goes from docile to fed up when it decides to fight back and chase the man off the road.
According to KRTV, Lindsey Jones shot the encounter which occurred on July 31at Yellowstone National Park’s Grand Loop in the Hayden Valley. The man is seen in the video berating a bison who’s standing in the middle of the road before the bison charges at him, leading him to run out of the way.
“We noticed behind us a man in socks and no shoes walking up the road towards the bison. He gestured to the animal to get off the road and then proceeded to challenge him,” Jones told ABC News. “The bison went after him a couple of times and then carried on with what he was doing before he was bothered.”
Jones told ABC that the man didn’t appear to have been injured following his altercation with the bison.
While the video is bound to draw some laughs, a spokesman for Yellowstone’s public affairs office called the man’s behavior “reckless, dangerous, and illegal.” Rangers are reportedly still investigating the July 31 incident.
He told the network, “We need people to be stewards of Yellowstone, and one way to do that is to keep your distance from wildlife.”
