Woman shot and killed in McDonald’s drive-thru; shooter at large

A woman was shot to death at a Florida McDonald’s on Friday morning, the Florida Times-Union reports.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s office, the victim was in the process of ordering a meal in the drive-thru of the fast-food restaurant in Jacksonville when the assailant walked up to her and fired a gun.

Police officers responding to the scene found the woman around 8:30 a.m. in a silver Chrysler 300 with at least one gunshot wound to her head or neck, Sgt. Marc Musser said.

She was rushed to a hospital but was later pronounced dead. No one else was injured.

Authorities blocked off part of a shopping center Friday near the shooting as police scoured the crime scene, according to the newspaper.

The motive for the killing remains under investigation. It’s not clear yet whether the victim and the perpetrator knew each other or if the shooting was a spur-of-the-moment act, perhaps prompted by road rage.

But the victim’s friends say her boyfriend may have been trying to harm her, WTLV-TV reports.

Witnesses have described the gunman as potentially being a heavy-set black male, according to Musser. Witnesses also said the gunman may have been in a white, four-door vehicle.

In a statement, the owner and operator of the McDonald’s said he’s cooperating with police and offered his condolences to the victim’s family and friends.

“We are working with law enforcement as part of this ongoing investigation,” Jose Hernandez said. “Our biggest priority is always the safety and well-being of our employees and customers at our restaurants.”
