Two North Carolina women are facing felony child abuse charges after a video surfaced on Snapchat allegedly showing them encouraging three young children to smoke marijuana.
Police announced Tuesday that they’ve arrested Michaela Pearson, 21, and Candice Little, 18, in connection with Monday’s incident involving three children. Police said the children seen in the video are 18 months old, 2 years old, and 3 years old, according to WXII.
WGHP reported that police received multiple reports after the unsettling footage made its way to Facebook. The children were taken to the hospital for observation and are now with their mother. Meanwhile, police noted they recovered drug paraphernalia upon taking Pearson and Little into custody.
The Winston-Salem Journal reported that a third person, Cristopher Daquan Nettles, 20, was arrested on an unrelated open warrant for resisting an officer. His relationship to the two women is unknown at this point in time.
The children’s mother has since told WGHP that she’s extremely upset by the footage and that she “trusted” the women with her kids.
Little and Pearson are also charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor. They’re scheduled to appear in court on September 13.
They’re currently being held on $150,000 bond each.
