A 20-year-old model from Australia has died after someone spotted her unconscious aboard a Mexican billionaire’s yacht off of Kefalonia, one of the Greek islands, last week.
According to the New York Post, Sinead McNamara, popular among an emerging group of Instagram models, was on Alberto Bailleres’ six-story vessel, the Mayan Queen IV, at around dawn on Friday when another passenger contacted authorities to report her condition.
Reports indicate the mining tycoon was not present at the time.
Medical personnel on board attempted to stabilize her until she could be transported to a mainland hospital, but she died during the helicopter trip.
McNamara had been in Greece as part of an extended trip she had documented on social media for her thousands of followers.
She had previously traveled to picturesque locations including Australia’s Whitsunday Islands, Bali, and Bermuda.
As of the latest reports available, a cause of death had not been provided. Some Greek media outlets cited as-yet unverified anonymous sources indicating her death was by suicide.
Family, friends and fans shared thoughts and memories on social media and elsewhere. Her brother, Jake, was among them.
“I have unfortunately received the worst news of my life,” he told Australian reporters.
The news came just ahead of her mother’s planned trip to Greece for a family vacation.
As the Sydney Morning Herald reported, her final Instagram post came several days before her death and has since become an online shrine where followers have paid their respects and offered condolences.
