Police in Washington, D.C., have arrested a woman who allegedly vandalized a Greyhound bus then attempted to run over the bus driver in an ordeal that was caught on tape.
Mariana Silver, 20, was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon in connection with Thursday’s incident. According to a police report obtained by WTOP, the situation turned violent after Silver, in her Audi A8, attempted to illegally pass the Greyhound bus and managed to sideswipe another car.
Police said the driver of the other car claimed they tried to make contact with Silver at a red light but she “grew irate,” which escalated into a verbal argument. In the video, Silver is apparently seen smashing out the Greyhound bus’ window with a car jack. The bus driver said Silver retrieved the jack after he told her, “You’re a crazy driver, you need to get off the road,” according to the report.
The Greyhound driver is seen trying to stop the woman from getting away, leading her to strike him with her vehicle on multiple occasions. Before she drives off, the bus driver gets in front of the car a final time, while bystanders urge him to stay out of harm’s way. Seconds later, Silver is reportedly seen veering off with the man on her hood before he falls off the car at an intersection.
WTTG reported that the bus driver suffered bumps and cuts to his arm but wasn’t seriously injured. He reportedly managed to finish his route.
Greyhound issued the following statement to WTTG in light of the ordeal:
“Our standard protocol includes an interview with drivers following any incident, and we will continue cooperating with law enforcement on this matter as it is still under investigation.”
