A third suspect is in custody after the mayor of Leggett, North Carolina, and his wife were found dead of gunshot wounds inside of their home.
According to WRAL, 30-year-old Dakeithia Nesha Andrews was arrested Saturday on suspicion of conspiracy robbery with a dangerous weapon.
The Rocky Mount woman was booked into Edgecombe County Jail in lieu of bond, which was set at $100,000.
As CrimeOnline previously reported, two suspects had already been apprehended in connection with the deaths of Gary Skelton and his wife, Jackie.
Authorities announced the initial arrests on Friday, confirming that 18-year-old Mitchell Brinson faces first-degree murder charges and is being held without bond at the same as Andrews.
Prosecutors are seeking similar charges against 25-year-old Keith Earl Williams, who was also denied bond.
Authorities responded to the scene after one of Jackie Skelton’s colleagues reported that she did not show up for work.
Just dozens of residents lived in the small, rural town where Gary Skelton was serving his second term as mayor.
One town official said the loss to the community will be immense.
“They were the epitome of good people,” said Teresa Summerlin. “It’s devastating. It’s nauseating. This community has lost two very special people.”
