A Kentucky teen has beencharged with attempted murder after authorities say he slashed his own grandmother’s throat before repeatedly stabbing her on Friday.
According to WDKY, Grayson County Sheriff’s Office deputies said they had responded to a 911 call placed by the suspect, 18-year-old Douglas Barton, who reported that his grandmother was injured.
Officials reported that upon arrival, they discovered the victim lying in the driveway of the Leitchfield home, located approximately 60 miles outside of Louisville.
Detectives reportedly determined through a subsequent investigation that Barton became enraged before attacking the woman, though it is not yet clear what prompted the violent attack.
The grandmother suffered massive blood loss, a collapsed lung, and a damaged trachea due to the violent attack, according to the report. Police said she will have to undergo multiple surgeries, and is being treated at University of Louisville Hospital.
In addition to the attempted murder charge, Barton is also charged with tampering with physical evidence.
Online records show that Barton is being held without bail at the Grayson County Detention Center.
