An English woman has been sentenced to six years in prison after stabbing her cheating husband during an alcohol-fueled rage February 28.
Deborah Rose, of Kent, England, screamed, “I’m gonna kill you” before attacking her husband, John Rose, after he “boasted” about being involved with another woman, the Daily Mail reports. The woman was reportedly drinking prosecco the night of the assault.
The two were married for 20 years despite the fact that John Rose had fathered a child with another woman during that time, the Daily Mail reported, citing a Canterbury Crown Court sentencing hearing.
When her husband admitted to having an affair, Deborah Rose, 47, reportedly threw several items at him, including a vacuum cleaner and a jug of milk—and the attack quickly escalated.
According to testimony at the hearing, the woman then retrieved a kitchen knife before cutting up his clothes. From there she reportedly screamed, “I’m gonna kill you” and stabbed the man seven times in his back, arm and leg—shattering a bone and piercing his liver in the process, the court heard. He also suffered a collapsed lung.
John Rose then managed to stumble his way down the stairs of the apartment before getting help. He was airlifted to a hospital with life-threatening injuries but survived the attack.
Deborah Rose was handed down the six-year prison sentence after confessing to “wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm,” according to Daily Mail.
“Rose reached for a knife in the heat of the moment and has proved she had every intention of using it, which could have had fatal results,” Detective Constable Mark Butler stated at the woman’s sentencing.
“She didn’t call an ambulance and he was forced to fend for himself and seek help from members of the public,” he continued.
“I hope this prison sentence gives Rose time to reflect on her actions and understand the consequences of what she did.”
