Police were called to investigate a possible sex assault after doctors found a dead turtle in a woman’s vagina.

Translating from a report in the Spanish newspaper El Pais, the New York Post reports that doctors made a horrifying discovery when a woman went to the hospital with abdominal pain: A dead, Chinese three-keeled pond turtle lodged in her vaginal cavity.

The 26-year-old woman is a British ex-pat who now lives in the Canary Islands, had been feeling sick and had abdominal pains for a few days before taking herself to the hospital. According to Spanish news outlet ABC, doctors found that she had a “serious infection” in her genitals and discovered the dead turtle.

The hospital called police suspecting a possible sexual assault, as the woman said she had been partying near a beach a few days before she went to the hospital and could not recall what happened that night.

But the woman reportedly said that she did not want authorities to further pursue the incident.

“We are not actively investigating this matter because the woman declined to give a statement,” a police source reportedly told The Sun.
