A toddler who has been in intensive care for nearly two weeks after an alleged assault has died.
WKBW reports that a 2-year-old girl from Grand Island, New York, died in the intensive care unit of Oishei Children’s Hospital late last week after being admitted there on September 10.
According to The Buffalo News, the unidentified toddler girl was found unresponsive in her home at about 10:30 p.m. that night, and was experiencing breathing difficulty. Her condition was due to having sustained unspecified injuries.
The next day, police arrested 26-year-old Brianna Valenti, an acquaintance of the toddler’s father. Valenti was charged with reckless assault of a child and assault through conduct causing risk of death, both felonies; along with a misdemeanor count of endangering the welfare of a child.
According to Valenti’s Facebook page, she identifies herself as a parenting blogger, and appears to have children of her own.
Authorities have not yet announced additional charges against Valenti in the wake of the toddler girl’s death.
