A Tennessee father was charged with child abuse after footage allegedly showed him hitting and kicking his 6-year-old son.
According to WKRN, police with the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office arrived at a Mt. Juliet home Sunday, where they were met by a woman who claimed her ex-husband struck their son in the face and kicked him the stomach multiple times. The woman reportedly stated that she had surveillance video that supported her account.
The child’s mother, Nia Snow told WLWT that Randy Dickens beat their son because he misbehaved at school. The Wilson County Sheriff’s Office alleged the footage caught Dickens hitting the boy in his face and pushing him to the ground.
“All of a sudden, his whole body just started going into it,” Snow recalled. “He was drooling out of his mouth, he was putting so much effort into it, that’s how bad it was.
At one point, Snow said her son tried to escape—only for Dickens to follow him and continue the beating.
“Damien ran in there to hide underneath his pillow, and Randy comes in and smacks him again in the face and kicks him again,” Snow said.
“The whole time it was happening, he was screaming my name.”
Snow said she secretly called the police after she convinced Dickens to leave to pick up groceries. She told the news station that she didn’t intervene because she was afraid. Dickens reportedly had a handgun on him and and allegedly abused her in the past, she said.
WKRN reported that two rifles were seized from the home. Dickens turned himself in early Monday and was released from custody after posting a $7,500 bond.
Snow told WZTV that Dickens is barred from contacting her or their son.
