Authorities in Wisconsin are crediting tips from a number of locals in their ability to arrest a suspect in the sexual assault of a woman early Thursday morning.
According to WISC, Platteville police believe Amadeus Sazon Toney grabbed a stranger and dragged her across the road shortly after midnight in an apparent attempt at a continued attack.
A police report filed in connection with the incident indicates the assailant fled the scene.
He allegedly initiated contact with the victim by calling out to her. Moments later, he allegedly had her in his grasp until she was able to break free.
“The Platteville Police Department received several responses to a Facebook message and News release asking for assistance,” a police statement revealed. “Responses from the community identified Amadeus Toney as a possible suspect. Officers were able determine that Amadeus Toney was involved in the incident. When officers began to search for him they were alerted by a City Employee that he was currently in City Hall. Officers were able to make contact and take him into custody without incident.”
Toney is expected to face charges including fourth-degree sexual assault and false imprisonment.
He was arrested at about 9:30 a.m. on Friday after receiving multiple leads. As of this report, authorities said the investigation remained ongoing.
