A Florida woman facing murder charges claims she accidentally stabbed her husband after slipping on dog feces.
Fox 35 reports that Rachel Fidanian, 38, has been arrested on murder charges in the stabbing death of her husband, 40-year-old Bryant Fidanian, in Lakeland on June 25.
Beginning with the 911 call she placed after her husband was stabbed, Fidanian claimed the stabbing was an accident, but a coroner later ruled his death a homicide.
According to the arrest affidavit obtained by Fox 35, Rachael Fidanian originally claimed that she stabbed her husband in the shoulder when she was holding her dog while washing dishes, and slipped with the knife in her hand, accidentally stabbing her husband.
Later, she reportedly changed her story to say that she was slicing pizza and noticed that their dog had urinated defecated on itself, and she went to clean the dog with the knife in her hand. She claimed she slipped and fell on her husband, and the knife blade went into her shoulder.
Detectives reportedly found no evidence of dog urine or feces during a search of the scene.
“The suspect made a lot of excuses, but none of them made sense,” Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said in a statement obtained by the Miami Herald. “Our detectives did a thorough investigation. In the end, they determined this was an intentional act of domestic violence.”
Fidanian was charged with second-degree murder and is being held at the Polk County Jail.
