Police investigating the shocking murder of a standout amateur golfer have recovered three knives.
As CrimeOnline previously reported, Celia Barquin Arozamena was found dead on September 17 at the Coldwater Links golf course in Ames, Iowa. The 22-year-old Spanish native was among the highest ranked amateur golfers in the country and the 2018 Big 12 Champion. Investigators determined that she died from multiple stab wounds.
Shortly after her body was discovered, police arrested Collin Richards and charged him with first-degree murder. According to the Des Moines Register, Richards is believed to be homeless and reportedly had a cut on his hand when police interviewed him the day Barquin Arozamena’s body was found.
Richards is believed to have gone to a home after the murder to take a shower. His relationship to any residents of the home is not known, and it is also not known how police discovered he had been there. On September 20, authorities responded to a garage fire at the home that remains under investigation. At the scene, they found two knives, one serrated, and both with blades over four inches long. The victim is believed to have suffered wounds made by similar knives.
Police reportedly found a third knife at a campsite where Richards has a connection. Authorities have not said which of the knives are believed to have been used in the Barquin Arozamena’s murder.
Richards remains in custody on a $5 million cash bond.
