Authorities said a Tennesee man who allegedly beat his girlfriend in the head with a brick before repeatedly running her over with a car has taken his own life while in custody.
WHBQ reported that Santrez Traylor, 34, was found unresponsive in his jail cell Saturday afternoon, nearly a week after he repeatedly mowed over the mother of his children, Amanda Petrowski, 31, and fled the scene. He was arrested a short time later and charged with second-degree murder and aggravated assault.
Memphis police indicated the mom-of-two’s murder stemmed from a domestic dispute that occurred earlier in the day.
“She was standing when he first hit her and then she fell down and he repeatedly was hitting her with the brick, hitting her with the brick,” a neighbor told WHBQ. “Kicking, punching her he was trying to make sure she was dead.”
Traylor was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
WMC reported that Traylor had been jailed multiple times for domestic incidents involving the victim. An affidavit obtained by WHBQ stated that he was charged with criminal trespassing and domestic assault a month earlier for allegedly going to Petrowski’s home and threatening to hurt her and their children.
According to the Commercial Appeal, Traylor told Petrowski “if the cops show up I’ll beat your brains out” and threatened to put one of their children “through the wall.”
The medical examiner’s office will determine Traylor’s official cause of death.
