Cheerleader accused of sexual assault; putting female teammate in chokehold until she lost consciousness

A male cheerleader at the University of Central Florida in Orlando has been accused of putting a female teammate in a chokehold long enough for her to lose consciousness and collapse — in addition to allegedly sexually assaulting two other teammates.

WKMG reports that Dawan Carter Jr., 22, has been arrested by campus police on charges of aggravated battery, and subsequently kicked off the cheerleading squad. He is also facing felony sexual battery charges in relation to two separate incidents, KnightNews.com reports.

The former cheerleading teammate reportedly claimed that Carter put her in a chokehold for 22 seconds until he passed out, according to WKMG. According to an arrest warrant obtained by WKMG, Carter claimed the incident which reportedly took place during practice, was “horseplay”.

The alleged chokehold took place in May, while more recent allegations have resulted in sexual battery charges. According to WKMG, two former cheerleading teammates have accused Carter of sexual assault in their respective dorm rooms in September.

One alleged victims claims that Carter invited himself to her dorm room on the morning of September 6, at which time he reportedly removed his shirt and got into bed with her, even though the two had not previously been intimate. The victim reportedly stopped Carter repeatedly when he attempted to fondle her genitals, specifically saying she “did not want this,” according to the affidavit obtained by WKMG.

Carter allegedly continued touching the student, digitally penetrating her and overpowering her when she tried to stop him.

As she was resisting, Carter allegedly said to her, “You’re saying no but your body is saying yes” and “When you stop resisting, it’ll be OK,” according to the affidavit.

Another alleged victim said that Carter assaulted her in her dorm room after giving her a ride home from an outing with fellow cheerleaders where she had been drinking. According to the police documents, that victim said Carter spoke about wanting to become sexual and she said she did not. Over her protests, Carter allegedly digitally penetrated her and left the room a few minutes later, after she stopped resisting.

In an interview with police, Carter reportedly admitted to sexual contact with both alleged victims but claimed it was consensual.

Carter is reportedly free on bail.
