A South Carolina man and his daughter are facing incest charges after allegedly having a sexual relationship that resulted in the birth of baby who passed away from medical complications.
People reports that James Travis Brown and his daughter, Katlyn Lauren Edwards, were in a “consensual and mutual” relationship, according to the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office. The sheriff’s office published a press release on Friday that detailed the alleged inappropriate acts between dad and daughter, indicating they found enough evidence to show the pair both agreed to the relationship.
The baby died in a South Carolina hospital shortly after Edwards gave birth.
“I can’t confirm the baby died from complications related to incest, however we wonder if that’s the case,” Sheriff Don Reynolds said in the press release.
Authorities arrested Edwards on October 22 and booked her into the Johnson Detention Center in Laurens County. She’s been charged with incest. Brown is currently behind bars on an unrelated charge in a different county, but will also face incest charges in Lauren County.
“It is beyond my comprehension how this could take place between a father and daughter,” Reynolds added. “We are working with medical professionals and the Solicitors Office regarding that aspect of the investigation and will update everyone if there are any additional charges.”
