Authorities in Florida say a school bus driver was arrested recently on suspicion of multiple sex crimes against a juvenile student.
According to WFTS, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office launched a probe late last month into claims a 16-year-old girl first shared with a relative.
The alleged victim and her family knew the suspect, 61-year-old Ernest Williams, and the girl claimed the abuse dated back to 2015 when she was just 13.
She reportedly said that he molested her again in May 2016.
At the time of his arrest, the suspect was employed as a bus driver for Pinellas County Schools, though available reports did not indicate his alleged criminal behavior was linked to his position in the school district, as reported by the Tampa Bay Times.
An investigation provided corroborating evidence, according to a police report, and detectives arrested Williams on Friday.
Authorities reportedly questioned him Friday afternoon before booking him into Pinellas County Jail.
He is expected to face criminal counts including sexual battery, attempted sexual battery, lewd lascivious conduct, and two counts of lewd and lascivious molestation.
Reports indicate detectives have identified another possible victim. That individual is in another police jurisdiction and an investigation remained ongoing as of the latest updates available.
Investigators believe there could be additional victims and are asking anyone with possible information about the case to contact police.
Potential victims or those who have information relevant to the ongoing investigation can contact detectives with the Crimes Against Children Unit by calling 727-582-6483.
