Authorities in Texas say a 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of abusing his young daughter.
According to WSVN, Johnnie Lee Carter was arrested in El Paso County on suspicion of inflicting serious bodily injury on a child.
The charge stems from an incident earlier this year in which law enforcement officers were dispatched to a residence in Odessa after receiving a report of a domestic disturbance.
Upon their arrival, police say they discovered the young female victim with apparent facial injuries.
Reports following the Sept. 16 incident indicate the girl’s eyes and mouth had been glued shut.
Odessa police soon identified her father as a suspect in the investigation, but he fled the scene before they arrived at the home.
According to an arrest affidavit, the victim’s mother told investigators that Carter physically abused the girl by punching and choking her prior to putting the adhesive on her face.
Detectives reportedly found a container of super glue at the scene that they believe was used in the incident.
He is also accused of mistreating an infant at the location. Police reports indicate he put the 2-month-old under a pile of blankets and pillows.
Authorities apprehended Carter after 10 days on the lam, according to officials.
U.S. Marshals tracked him to an El Paso motel, about 270 miles away from the location of his alleged crime.
The Dallas Morning News reports Carter was previously convicted of violating a protective order and had been locked up for domestic violence.
