Authorities in West Virginia say a middle school teacher sent erotic images of herself to a 15-year-old boy who had previously been one of her students.
According to WNDU, 28-year-old Ramsey Bearse had been a beauty pageant contestant prior to becoming a teacher and was named Miss Kentucky in 2014. At the time she was known as Ramsey Carpenter.
Investigators reportedly became aware of the alleged crimes after the boy’s parents discovered the content on his cellphone.
Upon finding the lewd material, reports show the parents contacted police. The explained that Bearse had taught the teen when he attended Andrew Jackson Middle School.
Reporters reached out to the Kanawha County school district for a comment regarding the pending charges.
A spokesperson did not expound on police reports but confirmed Bearse’s employment as a teacher at the middle school in Cross Lanes.
Reports indicate she was arrested on Friday. She is expected to face felony criminal charges including four counts of distributing or displaying obscene matter to a minor.
“Mrs. Bearse is a teacher at Andrew Jackson Middle School,” the district confirmed in a statement, according to WSAZ. “We cannot comment on personnel matters, but we will follow all applicable policies and procedures. The safety and security of our students is our top priority.”
She allegedly sent multiple photos between August and October of this year through the social media app Snapchat.
Police say Bearse admitted sending the nude images to the teen. She was reportedly released the same day she was arrested after posting $10,000 property bond.
