A Pennsylvania man surrendered to police Monday after he allegedly shot his girlfriend in the head, with her newborn baby just steps away.
ABC6 reports that Tyrese Lynch, 33, is accused of shooting Isis Williams, 24, inside her home on early Friday morning. Williams gave birth to the infant girl five days before the shooting. The incident occurred at around 4 a.m., in the Logan area of Philadelphia, according to police.
The baby was unharmed, but Williams, who was on the phone with her mother when shot, did not survive. She was found on a bedroom floor with a gunshot wound to her head. Authorities pronounced her dead at the scene.
Authorities reported signs of struggle inside the home, with the infant found in her crib, just steps away from her mother. The baby is now in the care of her aunt.
“Her mother heard the shots,” the victim’s aunt, Aspara Agyeman, said. “Even though I may be the one that ends up raising her [the baby], she’s gonna know that Isis is her mother and that she was loved.”
On Monday afternoon, Lynch turned himself in.
