A Florida teacher is facing criminal charges after allegedly professing her love for a 13-year-old student in text messages.
WPLG reported that Andrea Jimenez, 47, began sending the male student messages in May 2018, when the student was 12. While no photos were sent between the two, police said Jimenez, a science teacher at Doral International Academy of Math & Science, became “aggressively romantic in an obsessive tone” in messages she sent to the boy over the summer.
Jimenez wrote to the student via social media, “I will go to hell for U. Die for U stop eating to feed you. My love for u is so real and huge!!! I don’t mind facing the devil himself for u,” according to the news station.
Jimenez grabbed the then-12-year-old student by his face and attempted to kiss him before the end of the previous school year, according to WFOR. Citing a police report, WTVJ reported that Jimenez told the boy not to talk to other girls and would occasionally buy him clothes, electronics, and books.
Police wrote that the student expressed that he wasn’t interested in Jimenez. Authorities reportedly got involved last week, after the boy’s parents notified the school principal of messages between the teacher and their child. Jimenez told some school staff about her inappropriate behavior and had texted the boy’s mother asking for forgiveness, according to WPLG.
The school fired Jimenez and she turned herself in on Friday. A school spokesperson told WTVJ that there were no reports of inappropriate behavior between Jimenez and other students.
Jimenez is charged with lewd and lascivious conduct on a child and using a computer for prohibited purposes. She was reportedly released from jail Friday after posting $17,500 bond.
