Authorities in Georgia say a man was arrested this week after he allegedly stabbed his brother during a physical altercation that played out in front of relatives.
According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Joseph Oliver was arrested after Clayton County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to reports of a disturbance at the family home on Braxley in the Jonesboro area.
Police reports indicate the unidentified victim was transported to Southern Regional Medical Center.
He was later pronounced dead as a result of the injuries he sustained in the stabbing.
Family members including the father, mother and grandmother of the suspect and victim were present at the scene at the time of the incident. They all reportedly witnessed the stabbing.
Responding officers say they found a knife in Oliver’s possession and arrested him on Monday night. He was transported to Clayton County Jail where he was booked into jail without bond.
As WGXA reported, it was unclear from available reports whether Oliver has retained the representation of an attorney.
He is expected to face criminal counts including malice murder and aggravated assault.
Initial reports did not reveal what police believe the motive of the violent attack was.
Police say Oliver admitted to the violent crime during a preliminary interview with investigators, as reported by WXIA.
