Authorities in Nevada say a county judge is facing criminal charges after she allegedly hit her son during a dispute last week.
According to KSNV, Eight Judicial District Court Judge Stephanie Miley was arrested on Saturday evening at a home in the area of downtown Summerlin.
A statement from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department indicates the alleged incident took place at about 6:45 p.m. Police did not publicly identify the suspect’s son, but revealed the alleged victim is an adult.
Court records show the Clark County judge is expected to face criminal charges including one count of misdemeanor battery and domestic violence.
As the county court’s website reveals, the suspect was elected to the bench in 2004. She began by hearing cases in the family division and later transitioned to Department XXIII where she has presided over civil and criminal court cases.
The court did not provide an initial statement following the judge’s arrest.
An attorney slated to represent Miley in the forthcoming proceedings said she will fight the charges.
“We are pleased to be assisting Judge Miley, who intends on vigorously defending against these mere allegations,” David Chesnoff said in a statement.
The suspect has been embroiled in a bitter divorce with her husband, Las Vegas attorney Edward Miley, as reported by KLAS.
He was arrested on charges of domestic violence about a decade ago, according to court records.
Stefanie Miley is set to appear in court again on January 22.
