Authorities in Illinois say a man was arrested on suspicion of killing his own mother and dumping her body in an alley earlier this week.
According to the New York Post, 25-year-old Robert Wallace is accused of stabbing and beating the victim to death before placing her mortally injured body in a trash can near their Chicago home.
Police responded to the scene at about 2 p.m. on Monday, where they found 67-year-old Betty Wallace dead in the alley. City workers reportedly first found the body and reported the discovery.
As the Chicago Tribune reported, workers with the Department of Streets and Sanitation were in the Morgan Park neighborhood working on South Prospect Avenue when they noticed the body.
Betty Wallace reportedly had wide ranging visible injuries including stab wounds to her legs and blunt force trauma to her head and face.
She was pronounced dead at the scene, about a half mile away from the residence on South Church Street.
An autopsy was performed on the woman and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office found she died as a result of a homicide by multiple sharp injuries.
The younger Wallace was arrested nearby the same evening. As of the initial reports available, he had not yet answered investigators’ questions.
He is expected to face charges related to her homicide and was set to appear in court on Thursday.
Police did not initially release any additional information about the attack, as the Tribune reported.
