Physical therapist admits to sexually assaulting 96-year-old WWII veteran patient

A former physical therapist in Pennsylvania will serve six to 23 months in jail last week after being caught molesting a 96-year-old male patient during a therapy session earlier this year.

According to the Allentown Morning Call, Armee Rubi, a 43-year-old married father of two, couldn’t explain why he inappropriately touched the elderly patient, a World War II veteran, and why he had the patient touch him. The victim was being treated for a hip injury on May 21 when his granddaughter caught Rubi standing over him abusing him, prompting Rubi to adjust his own pants and leave.

Rubi was employed through the visiting nurses program at St. Luke’s University Health Network at the time and ultimately lost his job. His lawyer claimed he sought psychological help after his arrest in an attempt to try and grasp what happened.

“I will do everything I can to become a better person and not allow this to happen again,” Rubi, who had no previous criminal record, told the judge.

The ex-physical therapist pleaded guilty in September to indecent assault and was sentenced to prison last Wednesday. In addition to incarceration and two years’ probation, he’s required to register as a sex offender for 25 years.
