A well-liked Los Angeles-based news anchor has died after being found unresponsive in a hotel room.
The New York Post reports that KTLA news anchor Chris Burrous was found at a Day Inn in Glendale on Thursday afternoon after a friend called police to say that the 43-year-old man was not responsive and possibly not breathing. He was taken to a hospital and later pronounced dead.
According to KTLA, authorities said at a news briefing that the friend had already begun attempting lifesaving measures when paramedics arrived. That man “quite honestly did a good job of trying to render aid,” Glendale Police Sgt. Dan Suttles reportedly said at the news conference.
The officer also said that first responders immediately recognized Burrous, “because everybody knows Chris.”
According to the New York Post, Burrous was also previously an anchor for the New York-based news station Pix 11.
Suttles said there was no indication that Burrous committed suicide, but a possible overdose appears to be under investigation.
“Glendale detectives are currently investigating the case and are thoroughly examining the unfortunate circumstances surrounding his death,” Glendale Police said in a statement, according to KTLA.
Toxicology test results are still pending.
