A mother in the United Kingdom has been arrested on suspicion of murdering her toddler twins, who were found dying at her home in Margate following a car crash that appears to have been intentional.
The BBC reports that a 37-year-old woman was taken into custody early Thursday morning, about 45 minutes after a crash involving an SUV and a truck.
According to a report in the Sun, authorities believe the unidentified woman intentionally crashed her vehicle into the truck.
Some details of the accident and its aftermath remain unclear: Police reportedly found the severely injured toddlers at their home in Margate, an unspecified distance from the crash scene. But the mother was reportedly at the scene of the accident when she spoke to police, who went to her address following that conversation, according to the Sun report.
The toddler twins were taken to a nearby hospital for lifesaving measures, but were later pronounced dead.
The mother was reportedly treated for minor injuries at another hospital before being taken into police custody.
A neighbor of the family spoke to the BBC, saying, “I just don’t know how to process it really, it’s so deeply shocking.”
